Mapleton Valley is home to about 115 registered Holsteins and Milking Shorthorns.  About 55 cows make up the milking herd, housed in tie stalls.  A free stall building is shared by cows and bred heifers with limited pasture. Calves are raised in hutches.

1978 marked the beginning of the partnership of Pat and Phyllis Agnew. Pat grew up on his father’s century farm near Oconomowoc and Phyllis was from a large Milking Shorthorn herd at Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, built by her parents Willard and Sylvia Gerner (Weg Acres).  Milking Shorthorn and registered Holstein were gradually introduced into the herd of grade Holstein.

The Agnews crop about 350 acres including corn, soybeans, small grains and alfalfa. They also do custom combining.

The Agnew “kids” are also partners at Mapleton Valley. Both were very active in 4-H and got the “itch” for developing and showing high quality dairy cattle. Katie, a high school chemistry teacher, does evening milking and works full time during the summer.  Tom and his wife Keely, along with daughter Bryn, own an IBA ag supply distributorship. Tom is the fitting specialist and has judged numerous shows across the country. He also plays a big part on the farm when or wherever needed.  Thus, we are a real family business.

Pat has served as AMSS President, Katie is presently a national director for the American Milking Shorthorn Society.

Our goal remains – Striving to develop beautiful, sound cows that love to produce high quality milk. Our motto – Never let the fear of striking out, keep you from playing the game!
